It's 10 minutes to 6PM and I'll I've eaten today is a small bowl of pea soup for breakfast. Forgive me for my loopiness. I'm sorry but HOW can someone think of eating on such a DAY AS TODAY. I felt like I had to do soOoOo many things today and guess what I DID. I took closeup pictures of my face, filmed a video, and walked downtown; only to then buy a few records to add to my slowly building collection. The albums I chose purely reflected how I feel this season. Did I ever mention that autumn is my favorite time of year? I didn't? Weird. I also bought two others that I can't reveal to the world yet because one of them is a gift I just haven't figured out which one yet. Currently, Carole King's "So Far Away" is playing in the background and I feel so GOD DAMN CONTENT. It's days like today that I long to live in a tiny cabin in the woods in a small town in the 60's. In in in in in in. I long for complete isolation. Why is that? Is this my empty stomach talking? Holy shit every single song on this album is down right AMAZING. Any record collectors out there, or even if you own a record player and only play the newest hits, PLEASE go out and purchase Tapestry. It's the number one record I've always wanted to own since receiving my record player (among the list includes: Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, Coming From Reality by Rodriguez, Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell...the list goes on). ANYWAYS. I'm rambling. I'M A RAMBLING FOOOOOLLL. Buy my EP.

lonely songs for dog lovers

SO FRIDAY NIGHT I HAD AN EP RELEASE CONCERT AND IT WAS GREAT AND HERE IT IS IF YOU MISSED IT.

Seriously though, I had such a fun time and want to thank all who came to listen and support, or not listen but support, or listen and not support. EITHER WAY, I do indeed thank ye. Even the two nasties in the bathroom. You sure made it unforgettable...
The whole process was a great learning experience for me, so those are always good. If you missed the show (hopefully you were in the hospital or something. well, not hopefully. but you know what I mean. actually forget it we probably don't even know each other very well), I still have EP's available to purchase so HIT ME UP! Or, if you prefer to live in the digital age, you can purchase one off my bandcamp page: http://haleyblais.bandcamp.com/
THANKS YOU GUYS!  Just don't tell me if you don't like it, okay? I would like to keep a SHRED of my dignity for once.

top 5 favorite indie films to grace the netflix screen

Many noteworthy and impressive films have come and gone through the Netflix library, and since hacking my brother's account, I have had the pleasure of experiencing some (okay, most. I have a lot of spare time) of them (The Katy Perry documentary, anyone???). And because it's been raining a lot, and that automatically calls for a movie marathon, I thought I would share some of my favorite independent films I've come across through the Netflix library over the past year. Shit's about to get hella real.

1. Jeff, Who Lives at Home (2011)
Directed by: Jay & Mark Duplass
Starring: Jason Segel, Ed Helms, Susan Sarandon, Judy Greer
This is the most recent movie I've seen out of the list, (like, literally yesterday) but it resonated with me so strongly for some reason I can't explaI LOVE JASON SEGEL. It follows stoner/slacker Jeff, (Segel) who while on an errand for his mother (Sarandon), inexplicably discovers his "destiny" after helping his brother (Helms) investigate his possibly unfaithful wife (Greer). While Jeff is our protagonist (an adorable one at that), the movie also centers around the lives of both Helm's character, Pat, and their mother, Sharon. Pat's marriage is in turmoil, and when he suspects his wife of having an affair, him and Jeff follow her around town to discover the truth. Sharon's story of a lonely widow finding unexpected love is more of a side dish; the fresh rolls of bread you get before the meal that fill you up in less than 5 minutes because you wonder how something so plain and simple can be so wonderful so you keep eating them. It's simple, but no less powerful. Each character develops and overcomes their conflicts to end in a heartfelt conclusion where you will FOR SURE CRY DON'T EVEN TRY NOT TO. It's also one of those movies where you're all: "woah it's like totally doing what he said it would do like that's actually happening WOAH THAT'S A TWIST like I thought this movie would be blah but it's like AH and kind of magical." Or maybe I'm the only one who does that? TEAR-O-METER: TEARS OF JOY AND OH MY GOD JASON SEGEL

2. Celeste and Jesse Forever (2012)
Directed by: Lee Toland Krieger
Starring: Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg, Elijah Wood, Emma Roberts

This movie will probably go down as one of my favorites under the category of "movies-that-aren't-love-stories-but-are-stories-about-love-and-that-will-rip-your-heart-apart" and really resonated with me for some reason I can't explaI LOVE ANDY SAMBERG. Think, Blue Valentine, but more quirky(also no dogs UNNECESSARILY DIE). Trying to maintain a close friendship after recently divorcing one another proves difficult for high school sweethearts, Celeste (Jones) and Jesse (Samberg). While Jesse (the jobless slacker) quickly enters a new relationship, Celeste (the successful business woman) finds it harder to do the same, and decides to try and win him back. Celeste, to be honest, was kind of a hard-ass and watching her slowly crumble during the breakup, while the seemingly immature Jesse moved on, was very REALISTIC. It's like that whole Ross-and-Rachel-meant-to-be-together kind of thing, but what's so great about it is that they aren't (did that make sense?? do you know what I mean?) This movie doesn't sugar coat anything. It is both heartbreaking and hilarious and excuse me while I cry almost as hard as I did during the series finale of Dawson's Creek (and that's saying something). Let's not forget the killer soundtrack. TEAR-O-METER: LIFE ENDING TEARS

Also there's this that I feel really speaks to me:

 3. Smashed (2012)
Directed by: James Ponsoldt
Starring: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Aaron Paul, Nick Offerman, Octavia Spencer
Now I'm not saying this from experience, but you know you probably have a slight drinking problem when you puke in front of your elementary school class and brush it off as a fake pregnancy. At least that's what Kate (Winstead) realized after another night of heavy drinking with her fellow booze loving husband, Jesse Pinkman  Charlie (Paul). The two live and love on a relationship of alcohol and more alcohol. What seemed innocent and fun, turned to be a serious problem for Kate, and her relationship with her husband begins to dismantle when she decides to sober up and attend AA meetings under the watchful (and slightly creepy) eye of her coworker RON SWANSON.  THIS MOVIE THOUGH. THE ACTING. THE SCRIPT. How many times can I use the adjectives "heartbreaking" and "realistic" in these reviews? Anyway, I wish I looked as cute as Mary Elizabeth Winstead looks as an alcoholic in REAL LIFE. That woman does no wrong. Just make sure your dad doesn't come in at that one part where she gets drunk and says that stuff because that was awkward.
TEAR-O-METER: CRYING BECAUSE WHYYYYYY

4. Young Adult (2011)
Directed by: Jason Reitman
Starring: CHARLIZE THERON BITCHES, Patrick Wilson, Patton Oswald
FIRSTLY: Diablo Cody. SECONDLY: Diablo Cody. Yet another happy-go-lucky film about the downfall of an individual to addiction. Mavis Gary, former prom queen and washed up young adult fiction writer, returns to her small hometown after her divorce in hopes to rekindle the flame with an old boyfriend (disregarding the fact he is happily married with a new baby LIKE SHE ACTUALLY KNOWS THIS AND DOESN'T CARE). She drinks too much and tries too hard and truly doesn't give a shit. She's the epitome of all the cliches where the people you envy in high school end up pumping your gas. Kind of. Whatever. It's awesome. But she's also super depressed so while you're laughing along with her and her crazy antics you're also all: oh shit girl, you need a nice long bath and a big hug. It's a black comedy that's so ridiculous you have to take it seriously. Did I mention Diablo Cody wrote it?
TEAR-O-METER: CRYING BECAUSE SHE'S CRYING

5. Like Crazy (2011)
Directed by: Drake Doremus
Starring: Felicity Jones, Anton Yelchin, JLAW!!
I first watched this movie on the tiny airport seat screens coming back from Europe. I then proceeded to watch it at home, you know, because of the whole tiny screen/being in a noisy stuffed up airplane thing. And then I think I literally re watched it immediately after it ended. Who does that? CRAZY PEOPLE. Get it? SHUT UP. This movie is for all you sappy sons of bitches out there and yes I'm mainly cursing at myself. It centers around two lovers, Jacob and Anna, and their relationship over the years after they are separated when Anna's Visa expires and she must return to the UK. It portrays the desperation and conflict a long distance relationship can create (like growing a scraggly goatee). Both have new people come in and out of their lives (CUE THE FABULOUS JENNIFER LAWRENCE), but they always seem to go back to one another. Or do they? GUESS YOU'RE GONNA HAVE TO WATCH IT. I feel like these reviews became less and less detailed. Sorry. It's another tear jerker, just to warn you. Actually, you're going to cry in all of these movies. And then you're probably going to debate getting very inebriated off a bottle of wine. TEAR-O-METER: FULL ON SOBBING AND THE PERSON SITTING NEXT TO YOU ON THE AIRPLANE SLOWLY PUTS HIS HEADPHONES ON

And you know it can't be the end of the blog post without a little music, so here is a playlist I created comprised of my favorite songs from each film. APPRECIATE IT. That is all.
