green goddess

Topshop knitted cropped sweater | Topshop petite spot skater skirt | Doc Martens platform sandal | Topshop Edge Paint satchel | See by Chloe | Nasty Gal Dizzy shades | Topshop Helter Skelter nail polish | Topshop daisy stud earrings | KALE. EAT THAT KALE.
Lately I've been feeling very green. In my mind green is a very fresh, happy color and seeing as we are officially in spring (despite the random hail storm this morning???) I feel green is a perfectly relevant color to reflect my current outlook and mood. I've hopped back onto the smoothie train and have been drinking the most AMAZING/REFRESHING/HEALTHY/DELICIOUS smoothie ever made of kale, lime juice, mangoes, pineapple, banana, and chilled green tea! Smoothie smoothie smoothie can't you seeeeee sometimes your.....deliciousness...scares....me...Anyways, on my wishlist lately are things that I hope to pick up this month when I go to Vancouver for a weekend. Could I be excited about Topshop perhaps??? Hmmmmm, I can't tell. I'm really diggin' bright colors, platform sandals, anything daisy, skater skirts; basically everything trendy right now. I'm sooooooo trendy. Trendy trendy trendy can't you- stop. Ok sorry. Also, I've been absolutely dying to get the new fragrance See by Chloe. I sampled it in Sephora about a month or so ago and have been dreaming of it ever since. I think I may take the plunge very soon. I'm in desperate need of a new spring scent. MY EAU DE NATURALE SCENT JUST ISN'T CUTTING IT ANYMORE I GUESS. I should shower. BYEEE

I'm really taking advantage of the fact I can put my hair up into a ponytail (with the help of a bobbypin...or ten), oh how I've missed it! And with casual hair, comes a casual, laid-back outfit. Technology was not agreeing with me today, and so this grungy-90's-teen-pain look is really fitting. I've been super busy this past week, recording, planning, sleeping, you name it, so hopefully I'll have more posts and more videos on both my YouTube channels this upcoming month! I can't believe it's practically the end of April... I can taste the summer sunshine already. I burnt my tongue.

gatsby, what gatsby?

I have been pretty much absent from posting here and on my channel because these past few days I've been...drum roll please...in the studio recording my EP! Well, we only began yesterday but the preparation is mighty time consuming! So alas, I have been unable to post. If you follow me on *~INSTAGRAM~* <-- (click me! and follow!) or *~TWITTER~* <-- (click/follow me too!), I've been updating like CRAZAAAY. Anyways, I thought I'd throw in a quick post today and leave you with this month's Vogue cover girl, Carey Mulligan on her role as Daisy Buchanan in the upcoming remake of THE GREAT GATSBY starring LEONARDO DICAPRIO AS JAY GATSBY CAN I GET A HELL YEAH. Not only is this book my favorite book ever, it's starring my favorite gal, Carey, and one of the more important men in my life, Leo. May's issue of Vogue features Carey looking amazing adorned in the finest designer attire, feathers and jewels. Need I say more?

I can't eve make wrosd (words, see??). SHE IS MY FAVORITE PERSON EVER AND TOTALLY WORTHY OF THESE SHOUTING CAPS LOCK BECAUSE I'M SHOUTING. To avoid me from getting wayyyy to carried away on how beautiful each ensemble is (LOOK AT HOW AMAZING THESE PICTURES ARE?????? WHY????) I will end this with my favorite line of the article, said by costar and friend Jake Gyllenhaal, that I think describes Mulligan exceptionally: "A really good actor has fifteen choices in their pocket. A great actor has 150. She tricks you into thinking she has fifteen. By the time you've figured that out, she's 150 paces ahead of you."

TODAY I TOTALLY PERSPIRED! Not usually something to be proud of, but it's the first time the weather has had such affects on me in what seems like 365 days! But who's counting. So in honor of this perspiration, I got super exited and threw on some knee socks, bright pink lipstick and necklaces I've had since I was four! I probably used to put them in my mouth! Awesome! I call this look "Barbie Hurl". Why? Because it's so ugly I puked? No because I channeled my inner child and cross contaminated it with my angsty teenage self! Look at how much fun I'm having in the sun with my dad. Oh you can't see him, he's the master behind the lens. He was so drunk. Get it, because he was taking so many SHOTS. Ohhhhh, sunshine induced puns. The funny thing is, I'm talking about how much I'm enjoying this weather from my dark cave of a computer room indoors.
there are things out there
I've clearly had my fill of vitamin D anyways. It's vitamin D right?

one last thing before i go

I first began this blog as a creative outlet for me to take a moment and admire, talk and find inspiration in all things fashion and beauty. And while it still serves and such, I would like to take a moment to admire and talk about someone who will hopefully inspire you in some way.
Recently, I lost a person very dear to me in my family through a tragic event nobody could have been able to foresee. It felt like a very bad, realistic dream, and even today it's still hard to believe that out of all the people in the world, she had to be the one to go. After hearing the news, my family and I packed our bags and headed up 7 hours East, to the small community of Kimberley, BC, to be with the rest of our family and celebrate the life of an amazing woman. It was there I realized, that not only was this person important to me in my life, she had affected the lives of thousands of others. People gathered from all over the country, and further, to say goodbye and it had me wondering: how could a single woman, who stood no taller than five foot four, have had such an impact on so many lives? Although I had knew the answer all along.
My auntie Debbie was, for lack of a better term, a ray of sunshine. No matter where she went, when she went there, she could light up a room with her exuberant personality. When summing up an individual's life at times like these, most would say things such as how happy they were and how they lived such a fulfilled life, but to say these things about Deborah Blais, would be an understatement. From conquering breast cancer, to giving back to the community in so many ways, she had an innumerable amount of friends and family whom she touched deeply daily, and all of whose lives are slightly dimmer today. She truly lived the life others only aspire to have. Auntie Debbie had a love of music and was a very gifted vocalist. Other than my parents, she was probably my biggest fan and every time I saw her, she would always ask for an update on how my singing was going. She would never pass up an opportunity to hear me sing, although I don't know how she could even hear me over her proud tears and squeals of delight.
When it came time for the actual funeral service this past Saturday, I was in awe of how many people occupied the entire auditorium from every single seat, to people crowded outside the doorways, filling the lobby area outside. Everyone was there because of her and the beautiful life she led. It was the most heart-warming service, filled with tears, laughter and even bursted with life. I felt truly honored to be there, because that's how you should feel to have had this wonderful person in your life. I sang my last song for my auntie Debbie that day. It was a song that immediately came to my head the moment I heard the news of her passing, that I never could understand why I thought of it, due to the fact I hadn't actually heard the song before. But as I looked deeper into the message and lyrics of the song, it was more like she was singing the song to me, rather than me to her. She was telling me, and everyone who was listening, to remember all the wonderful times she spent with us and not to dwell on the sadness no matter how much we are sad; because life goes on and then it ends, and just like a song on the radio cut-off too early from the turning off of an engine of an old pick up truck, as was her life. So keep on living your life to the fullest, just as she did. I'm sorry but she YOLO'd (yes, I just used YOLO as a verb) the shit out of her life, and even though I will never understand why she was taken from us that fateful day, and how I only wish I could sing one last song with her, I plan on living my life like she did. I plan on being "more like Deb".
If these words meant anything to you, I hope it was a reminder of how delicate life is, and how it could be cut short at any instant. If it was, are you able to look back with a satisfied smile? Can you leave knowing the people you leave will be okay in the end all because they knew you? More importantly how are you reading this?

Playlist of the Day: GRRRRL POWER

bearded women from hblaisauce on 8tracks Radio.

These past few days of rainy, cold weather have gotten me down in the dumps and led me to begin doubting and questioning myself. Who am I? What am I going to do? Why does my hair never do what I want it to do? I'm such a loser!!! But then I realized it was stupid and pointless to think these negative thoughts and I willed myself to get back on the confidence train!
Here's some of that womanly-independence channeled into a playlist featuring confident women with amazing talent that I just can't get enough of lately. Can you say inspiration??? Oh you can? Okay, just checking.

maybelline color whisper and MAC review

It's dreadfully weary out today! And while my mom is out bathing in the Jamaican sun (cool invite, Mom) I'm stuck inside avoiding the rain. So I decided to have a lazy day today and do a quick review of some lip products I've picked up recently! I've heard a lot about Maybelline's Color Whisper lip products but put off buying them for the longest time because lately if I'm choosing a lipstick color, I'll definitely lean towards a statement color because YOLO am I right?? But after buying two so far, I'll for sure be going back for more of these bad boys (WARNING: This is a positive, slightly obsessive review).

My favorite by far, though (out of two lipsticks?? how did you choose???), is Pin Up Peach! It's so soft and moisturizing on the lips and it's subtle color and shimmer practically scream spring! Get it?? Because it's on my lips which is where my mouth is which is where I talk and stuff. I think it's perfect for my skin tone and I just know it's going to be on my person 24/7. I reapplied it about 50 times throughout the day, not JUST because it needed to be, but because I loved it so much!! Although, it doesn't have the longest wear-ability it is definitely something I would recommend for this season.

Next I bought Oh La Lilac and again, it's so soft and lightweight. I like how the color is visible but not so in your face. It's definitely a cooler shade and reminds me of my Angel frost MAC lipstick, but for more than half the price! Both shades are easy to reapply and don't dry out your lips in the slightest!

My friend and makeup artist at MAC, Haley (woah awesome name kudos), ever so gracefully sent some bright lipsticks my way that she thought I would enjoy and DID I EVER. DID. I. EVER. Haley, if you're reading this, high five yourself or something.

The first one is MAC's Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Booyah!!! (enough said), and I absolutely love it! The color is a bright coral orange just like my Maybelline Electric Orange lipstick but a more matte shade, which I prefer. I don't even remember if I had to reapply it in the time I was wearing it, so I guess it stayed true to its name. I will definitely be wearing this color as my bright lip go-to this spring.

This is another Pro Longwear shade in Love Long Distance. It's a really pretty subtle pink lipcreme that I just envision myself wearing with an overall natural makeup look and a summery dress. I don't know. It just appeared in my brain. I have only swatched this one so I have yet to see if it too will live up to the longwear name, but I have no doubts.

Lastly is, the Mattene Lipstick in Seductive Intent *dims lights*. WHAM BAM THANK YOU MAN. Can we all just take a moment. Okay. LOOK AT THIS LIPSTICK! It's beautiful. I have a couple other lipsticks in a similar color to this, but none of them are matte. It's another perfect bright lip that I'm eager to show off in places other than my room!!!! (I'm looking at you, rain). I found it did leave my lips feeling a little dry, but it's nothing a little balm or gloss can't fix.

I highly recommend all of these products for anyone in the market for some new spring colors!

spring 2013's must-have color

Here's a little original spring time poem I've written for you all, it goes a little something like this:

Roses are red
Violets are blue
These are nice colors
BUT THEY'RE NOT MINTY- GREEN- SEAFOAMY- TURQUOISE AND THAT'S THE BEST COLOR OKAY???

I don't know what it is about this color, but I just can't seem to escape it! I'm fine with it, though, because I'm slightly obsessed. I never was one to have a favorite color because how can you choose out of ALL THE HUES?????? But lately I've been seeing a trend; I've even purchased a gosh darn lipstick in the color! It's definitely the "in" color, for lack of a better phrase, this season. I'm not too sure there's an official name, as I've heard it described as "mint", "pale turquoise", "sea-foam, so I've just hyphenated them altogether in a cozy bunch. How warm and cuddly those words must be. I bet they're like best friends now, all cuddled up beside each other all the time. I'm so lonely.

Pictured: EOS balm, Aldo sunglasses, Lime Crime lipstick in Mint to Be, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Mint Sorbet, tiny buddha (okay all of these products have the word "mint" in them so I guess this color can officially be referred to as "mint")
